The flamingo beak has a unique structure in the bird world, not including the smaller beak that moves along the larger upper beak. Instead, the upper mine is the one that can move and is also much smaller than the lower mine. This is a way for a flamingo to adapt to a special diet when using the beak in a paradoxical way.The reason is that instead of actively hunting like other waterfowl, they are filter feeders, like elk whales. To do this, flamingos first draw water into the throat by drawing their tongues backwards. They then close their mouths and use their tongues to push water out through a honeycomb-like structure in the upper beak.
Flamingos can repeat this process up to 4 times per second, filtering out everything in the water they stir with their feet, mostly algae and small crustaceans. These foods also cause pink flamingos to be pink due to the carotenoid pigment.Six red elements are common in nature and also the reason tomatoes and carrots are red. Over the years, this pigment accumulates in the flamingos body and slowly turns their white or gray feathers into red or pink.
