I did too. In 8th grade, in 1967, I had Sister James Irene. I once saw here hang Eric McCloud out a second floor window just holding his ankles. When I first got in her class she informed me that Bennie wasn’t a Christian name and asked my middle name.
- I said “John, Sister” to which she replied that John was a good Christian name and she would henceforth call me John. I said “But Sister, my name is Bennie and that’s what I want to be called”. So for two weeks she called me John and for two weeks I didn’t answer her, and for two weeks she hit me over the head with a fat old history book. Well, after two weeks the history book was looking a little worse for the wear and she gave it up and started calling me Bennie.
- I too had Sr. James Irene in 8th grade. She slammed my head against the blackboard for not knowing a math problem. My Mother was infuriated and spoke to the Prin cipal.
